ZIGO tackles the unique demands of public transportation signage design with a focus on clarity, efficiency, and scalability. Systems for airports, metro stations, and bus terminals must communicate critical information to a diverse, multi-lingual audience under significant time constraints. Our designs prioritize universal comprehension through a hierarchical information structure. The most crucial information, such as destination names, gate numbers, or line colors, is given the greatest visual weight through size, color, and positioning. We rely heavily on internationally recognized pictograms and symbols to transcend language barriers. A key aspect of our work is the integration of static and dynamic signage. Permanent signs directing to terminals or platforms are designed for longevity and clarity, while digital departure and arrival boards are incorporated for real-time updates. Our design for a major metro system involved a color-coded line identification system that was applied not only to maps and signs but also to platform edges and train exteriors, creating a continuous, easy-to-follow visual thread for passengers. The robustness of materials and hardware is also a critical consideration, ensuring the signage can withstand high-traffic use and 24/7 operational cycles with minimal maintenance.
